Welcome to the Pantry!

Where to start, other than to first say hello, and welcome to From The Pantry! For awhile now, after years in IT, I’ve been thinking it’s time for a change…and I’ve been trying to decide what I could do that would move me to a less stressful life. Well, while rummaging through the pantry yet again to see what I could make for dinner for myself and my wife I thought – why not start a blog? Sure, it’s still IT involved but it’s on my terms. But what to blog about was my next thought.

As I continued to rummage through the pantry, through the refrigerator, through the freezer and cupboards on a scavenger hunt for ingredients to come up with a meal for my wife and myself, I thought of all the times we had not made it to the grocery store, and all the times I found myself doing this treasure hunt for ingredients and thought, why not a cooking/recipe blog? Now, there are many of those types of blogs out there – from professionals, folks with recipes handed down over time, the tried and true recipes. I can say right now – I’m not a professional cook. I have plenty of recipes handed down over time, and I have the tried and true recipes. I also have a lot of things I’ve just made up over time, making due with what I have on hand to come up with a tasty, filling meal. Most times I succeed, and there have been plenty of failures – but that’s the fun of cooking.

So here we are, as I sip my morning coffee, starting a cooking/recipe blog. I’ll share all of the things I have learned over the years – some of those handed down recipes, some tried and true recipes, and those I just came up with on the fly. Some of them have stories behind them (like making a full breakfast in a college dorm room, or some creative cooking methods while we were swapping stoves), and some of them I won’t have exact measurements for (I do a lot to taste when winging it). Some posts may contain no recipes at all, with more focus on specific ingredients or cooking tools/techniques.

What I can promise that I keep the spice heat levels low, since my wife does not care for spicy food – but that doesn’t mean you have to.

I hope you all enjoy, and please feel free to comment on the posts – let me know how things worked for you, or how they didn’t, which ones you like and which ones you didn’t – or even how you adjusted what I provided.

Cheers!
Jeremy
